16/07/2019 21:21, TUNIS/Tunisia

(TAP) - The municipality of Sfax celebrates Tuesday the 135th anniversary of its creation (16 July 1884 - 16 July 2019), with a varied programme highlighting the city's rich cultural and architectural heritage. A ceremony in honour of the former mayors was held on this occasion.

A photo exhibition entitled "Sfax Municipality between past and present" is planned for the evening on Hedi Chaker Avenue and at the entrance to the municipal theatre.

This is an opportunity to retrace the history of the Town Hall built in 1906 by the French urban architect Raphaël Guy, known for his neo-Moorish style, combining Arab and Western architecture.

Sfax City Hall is one of the most beautiful historical monuments in North Africa, Mayor Mounir Elloumi proudly points out.

Currently, the palace is undergoing renovation, with a budget of nearly 4 million dinars, as part of the enhancement of this monument, while preserving its architectural character.

A musical evening will be held at the outdoor theatre in Sidi Mansour, in collaboration with the Sfax International Festival, featuring Helal Ben Omar and his show "Rêve".
