Municipal by-elections in Laayoune and Thibar kick off

(TAP) - The municipal election in Laayoune, Kasserine Governorate started on Sunday at 7 am.

The election was decided by the Regional Authority for the Elections (IRIE) after the dissolution of the municipal council of Laayoune for the second consecutive time because of the collective resignation of ten members out of 18 on May, 3, 2019.

IRIE president Zouhair Gharsalli told TAP polling stations will be open until 5 pm, noting that turnout for the police and the military who voted on Saturday reached 10%.

13 lists, 9 independents and 4 from parties are running in this region. 19 voting centers and 23 polling stations were set up

In the Thibar municipality (Beja governorate), the elections started at the same time and will continue until 5 pm. Three party and 3 independent lists are running in the election.

Adel Achour, President of the Regional Elections Commission said no military or police voted on Saturday.

The Thibar municipal council was dissolved on May 13, 2019, following the collective resignation of 12 members.
