(TAP) - Tourist activity in the Yasmine-Hammamet resort has achieved positive results from the beginning of 2019, up from 2018, said regional tourism commissioner Khaled Klouia.

The number of tourists who visited the region reached 489,478, until August 10, 2019, against 459,531 in the same period last year, i.e. an increase of 6.5%.

In addition, the number of overnight stays in hotel units in Yasmine-Hammamet grew 18%, from 1,498,456 to 1,768,506 overnight stays.

A rise was also recorded in the occupancy rate by families which amounted to 50% against 41.3% during the same period of the previous year.

These encouraging results were driven by the revival of several traditional markets including the French market (9 thousand tourists), Russian (12 thousand tourists), German, Italian and Spanish, he added.

Regarding the Algerian market, it has continued on an upward trend, with 22 thousand tourists and 111 thousand nights recorded until August 10.

Regarding the domestic market, it occupied the first place in terms of arrivals with 55 thousand tourists having spent 181 thousand overnight stays during the same period, according to the same source.
