Sfax: 2 bodies recovered and 9 people rescued in Ellouza shipwreck

(TAP) - National Coastguard units in Sfax, on Tuesday, recovered two bodies and rescued 9 people after their boat sank off the coasts of Ellouza, (Northern Sfax).

Three other people went missing while they were attempting to illegally cross the sea borders, said a local security source.

14 people originally from Sfax and Kebili were aboard the boat that struck a floating beacon, 6 nautical miles from Ellouza, added the same source.

Three suspected smugglers were arrested. They are originally from Sfax.

The Coastguard patrol backed by civil protection and Navy units and a military helicopter are conducting search operations for the people who went missing, said the source.
