Ghar El Melh celebrates World Migratory Bird Day

(TAP) – Ghar El Melh, a Ramsar city, on Saturday, celebrated the World Migratory Bird Day under the theme “Let us all join together to beat plastic pollution."

This event was jointly organised by “les Amis des Oiseaux (AAO)” association, the Culture Centre, the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Al-Intilaka school, the Local Union of Agriculture and Fisheries and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

The programme included scientific debates, photo exhibitions and educational workshops on the world of migratory birds, their movement from a place to another worldwide and the dangers of plastic pollution.

Nature walks were also organised, during which birds were released back to the wild.

Besides, in-depth scientific studies on the acclimatisation of migratory birds on the Ghar El Melh Lake also kicked off.

The city of Ghar El Melh (Bizerte governorate) was granted the Ramsar Wetland Conservation Award at the 13th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP13), held on October 21-29, 2018 in Dubai (UAE). It became the first Arab city in the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
