(TAP) - Fourteen African nationals were intercepted on Saturday, including twelve in Ben Guerdane (Medenine governorate), from Libya, and two in Bouderyes (Kasserine governorate), from Algeria, according to Interior Ministry statements made public on Sunday.

The twelve sub-Saharan nationals who illegally crossed the Libyan border were arrested on Saturday in Ben Guerdane by a joint patrol of the National Guard. The border intelligence brigade took charge of the case.

The other two sub-Saharan nationals were arrested on Saturday in Bouderyes by the border brigade of the National Guard, having illegally crossed the Algerian-Tunisian border. The two people were taken into custody on instructions of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

In addition, the search brigade of the National Guard in Monastir arrested, on Saturday, a smuggler in an abandoned house in Sayada. A boat engine, eight cans of fuel, seven backpacks containing clothes and a motorcycle were seized.

This operation comes after the units of the Monastir Coast Guard thwarted an attempt to irregular migration in recent days and arrested three suspects from Kairouan.
