Ben Arous sees first death from COVID-19

(TAP)- The governorate of Ben Arous recorded the first death from COVID-19 of a patient admitted in emergency Saturday night. He is a 60-year-old man living in Ezzahra.

According to initial reports, the name of the deceased was not on the list of patients positive for the coronavirus.

Three days ago, the deceased tested negative after experiencing chest pain and respiratory discomfort.

As his health deteriorated on Saturday evening, his family called the emergency medical services who decided to take him in emergency to the Abderrahmen Mami Hospital in Ariana, where he died shortly afterwards.

Local health director Taïeb Challouf said the team in charge of monitoring the epidemiological situation has carried out the necessary tests on the family members of the deceased.

The number of people with COVID-19 has reached 16 cases (from six families), said mayor of Ezzahra Rayen Hamzaoui.

These are currently being followed up. They will be transported to a place specially equipped for mandatory quarantine.
