Sfax: Two irregular migration attempts foiled, more than 100 people arrested

(TAP) - Sfax coastguards, on Sunday, thwarted two attempts to illegally cross the borders to Europe. About one hundred migrants from sub-Saharan Africa were arrested.

According to a statement of the Interior Ministry made public on Monday, the sub-Saharan nationals were arrested after a police raid on three abandoned houses in the region of Hagouna in Sfax.

The prosecutor's office has ordered judicial measures against them, the same source said.

Sfax Coastguard units also arrested on Sunday 8 individuals who were planning an illegal migration operation from the delegation of Sidi Youssef.

After consultation with the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Maritime Intelligence Brigade of the National Guard of Sfax initiated a judicial investigation against them and placed the suspects into custody.
