Sfax sees zero new COVID-19 infections for fortieth consecutive day

(TAP)– Sfax reported zero new COVID-19 infections for the 40th day in a row, Local Health Director Ali Ayadi told TAP. The governorate is virus-free after two recoveries announced Wednesday.

The region though is still testing suspected cases, Ayadi added. Eleven people, including 7 staff members at the mandatory quarantine centre, tested negative in the latest batch of tests.

With the last two patients testing negative Wednesday, the number of recoveries surged to 31 out of 38 confirmed cases since the outbreak.

Five people died as the virus started spreading. A further two expatriates native of Sfax were repatriated from Saudi Arabia and placed into quarantine at a mandatory centre in Monastir.
