(TAP) - Clashes continued on Sunday morning in Tataouine city between protesters and security forces who used tear gas.

The protesters called for the release of sit-inners arrested on Saturday night after a raid conducted by security forces to lift the El Kamour tents across the city.

A member of the El Kamour sit-in coordination told TAP correspondent in the region that security forces intervened en masse, injuring a large number of protesters and arresting others who had been released Sunday morning. Spokesperson for the el Kamour coordination Tarak Haddad, has been kept in detention, he said.

The same source deplored the inaction of the ministries concerned by the implementation of the EL Kamour agreement and "their silence regarding security intervention."

Besides, a security source in the region told TAP correspondent that the protesters had thrown stones and Molotov bottles and attempted to burn down the Tataouine police district.

Another security source said that intruders that are not members of the El Kamour movement had been held in detention for further investigation, after using force.

"Protesters burned tyres and blocked the roads," he added.
