Medenine: COVID-19 laboratory at the Djerba hospital comes into service

(TAP)- A COVID-19 testing laboratory has come into service at the regional hospital of Djerba (Medenine governorate, by receiving 38 samples taken from people from the governorate of Tataouine.

This new laboratory covers the region of Medenine and Tataouine, director of the Djerba hospital Salem Issa told TAP.

It is the result of a collaboration between the public and private sectors in the fight against the spread of coronavirus, he stressed.

He said several Tunisians from Djerba who reside abroad have contributed through donations to the acquisition of equipment for the laboratory with a budget of 300 thousand dinars.

The laboratory is currently staffed by two technicians and a volunteer biologist from the private sector.

It can process in a single session 48 samples, the same source said, adding that the unit will be used for other types of tests as soon as the covid-19 pandemic is over.
