(TAP) - Residents of Remada, Tataouine Governorate, on Saturday, staged a rally in front of the local municipality to protest against the marginalization of the region.

The protest followed recent clashes between youth and military units in the city.

In a statement to TAP, civil society activist Walid Abdelmoula pointed to the lack of development and employment in the governorate, which is among the most affected and marginalised areas.

A meeting between members of civil society and military leaders was held on Friday evening to calm the anger of the people of Remada.

Protests broke out last Wednesday in Remada after the killing of a young smuggler from the region in the military buffer zone.
