COVID-19: more deaths and cases of infection recorded in regions

(TAP) - The number of deaths from COVID-19 and people infected with the virus continues to rise after more cases were recorded in different parts of the country on Friday and Saturday.

In the governorate of Zaghouan, the number of deaths from COVID-19 rose to three after a man from Nadhour passed away from the virus on Saturday, said local health director Souhail bali, adding five more cases of infection were detected in Bir Hlima, Zaghouan delegation.

In the governorate of Sfax, a woman, in her 80s, died from the coronavirus on Saturday. Hence, the number of death in the region has risen to 10, local health director Jawher Mokni said.

He added that 25 more people tested positive for COVID-19 the release Friday of tests carried out on 159 suspected of having contracted the virus.

In the governorate of Tataouine, one more death was recorded on Friday, bringing to 7 the number of fatalities from coronavirus in the region since the spread of the pandemic, said local health director Taieb Chellouf.

In the governorate of Gabes, 11 more infected people have been identified, bringing the total number of infection cases in the region to 1049 cases.

The new COVID-19 cases are distributed as follows: 3 in Gabes-city, 3 in Gabes-south, 1 in El Hamma, 1 in Mareth, 1 in New Matmata, 1 Oudhref and 1 in Gabes-West.

One more positive case was recorded in the locality of Tanbib, governorate of Kébili bringing the total number of infected people to 120 cases.

In the governorate of Monastir, 79 more cases of infection were identified. Therefore, the number of people carrying the virus has reached 697 cases, local health director Hammouda Babba told TAP.

The same source said work of the COVID-19 unit at the local hospital in Teboulba has been completed.

The unit was carried out with donations of 420 thousand dinars collected from civil society and businessmen in the region.

In the governorate of Mahdia, 8 cases of infection were recorded on Saturday, bringing the current number of infected people to 46.

In the governorate of Nabeul, 34 more cases of infection were discovered on September 17, said director of preventive health Omar Sellimi.
