COVID-19: more deaths and cases of infection recorded

(TAP)- More deaths and cases of infection with the new coronavirus have been recorded in different regions of the country Monday and Tuesday.

In the governorate of Sfax, an additional fatality has been recorded, bringing to 11 the number of deaths from coronavirus in the region since the spread of the pandemic, Regional Director of Health Jawher Mokni told TAP.

He added that 26 more cases of COVID-19 were detected on Monday among 126 tests carried out on people suspected of having contracted the virus.

In the governorate of Gabes, a 52-year-old man from El Hamma, suffering from chronic diseases, died Monday in the military hospital in Tunis, said local health director Riadh Chaouch.

This brings the overall number of deaths in the region to 18.

In addition, 19 more cases of infection have been recorded in the region, according to the same source.

In the governorate of Nabeul, a 70-year-old man living in Slimane died Monday evening, bringing to three the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the region since the start of the spread of the pandemic.

Besides, 50 more infection cases were recorded in the region Monday after the release of results of 270 tests carried out.

The number of infected people amounts to 513 cases in the governorate, since the spread of the pandemic, including 24 people among paramedics and medics, director of preventive health at the local health directorate Omar Selimi told TAP.

The new infection cases are distributed as follows: 12 cases in El Haouaria, 8 in Soliman, 3 in Dar Châabane El Fehri, 3 in Grombalia, 3 in Menzel Bouzelfa and 3 in Nabeul-city and 2 cases each in the delegations of Beni Khiar, Kelibia, Menzel Temime and Hammamet.

In the governorate of Tozeur, 4 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus were recorded Tuesday, including 3 health workers, said the director of preventive medicine in Tozeur Souad Najii.

The overall number of infected cases stands at 64, she added.

In addition, new preventive measures have been taken throughout the governorate of Tozeur such as banning wedding ceremonies for 2 weeks and strengthening the health protocol in public companies and institutions.

A request was also made to the competent authorities to set up a mobile laboratory to carry out COVID-19 tests in Tozeur.

In the governorate of Kasserine, 8 new cases of contamination were recorded on Tuesday, bringing the total number of contaminated people to 95 since the reopening of borders, told the TAP agency, the regional director of health Abdelghani Chaabani.

In the governorate of Medenine, 8 new people have tested positive among 93 samples. These cases are distributed as follows: 7 cases in Djerba and 1 case in Ben Guerdane.

In the governorate of Ben Arous, an additional fatality was recorded on Tuesday, said the local health directorate.

The deceased, 64, from El Mghira (delegation of Fouchana), died in the Rabta hospital in Tunis.

In the governorate of Zaghouan, 6 more people tested positive on Tuesday, bringing to 103 the number of infected people in the region since the reopening of borders on June 27.
