(TAP) - The International Development Centre for the Innovative Local Governance (CILG) signed Monday financing agreements of pilot projects in four municipalities, namely Ben Guerdane (Médenine), Dhehiba (Tataouine), Boughrara (Médenine) and Hassi El Frid (Kasserine). The overall cost of these projects amounts to 1,500 million TND.

This is part of the Initiative for an Effective Decentralisation and Attractive Municipalities (IDEMA) which seeks to build the capacities of 12 Tunisian municipalities with funding from the the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

CILG Technical Diector Sami Yassine Turki said IDEMA is geared towards activating decentralisation and helping municipalities upgrade their services and engage in partnership with civil society.

Walid Gharbi, in charge of pilot projects at the centre, said these projects include play and reading areas for children in Boughrara as well as green spaces and an exhibition area for craftswomen in Ben Guerdane.

Two pilot projects in relation to producing electricity from solar energy, planting 10,000 olive trees and building waste collection capacities will be launched in Dhehiba.

Hassi El Frid, Kasserine, will see nine hot spots converted into waste collection points. A waste collection process will be put in place using a mobile application to establish a better communication with citizens.
