Ghriba pilgrimage kicks off in Djerba

(TAP)-The annual two-day pilgrimage to El Ghriba kicked off on Wednesday in the locality of Riadh, delegation of Houmt Souk (Governorate of Medenine).

The annual pilgrimage to the Ghriba synagogue, the oldest Jewish monument in Africa, is one of the symbols of Tunisia, land of tolerance and peace, Governor of Medenine Said Ben Zaid recalled in a statement to TAP on Wednesday.

Exceptional preparations had preceded the pilgrimage this year to ensure the smooth running of the event and the return of tourists after two years of the health crisis, he specified.

Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Belhassine underlined, for his part, the importance of this event which signals the start of the tourist and summer season, adding that 3 thousand visitors and 50 journalists and personalities of 14 nationalities are expected.

President of the Ghriba organising committee Perez Trabelsi said that this year's pilgrimage is exceptional in terms of organisation and the number of visitors, several of whom are dignitaries and personalities.
