Production of grapes in governorate of Nabeul up 20%

(TAP) - The production of grapes in the governorate of Nabeul is estimated this season to 26,123 tonnes against 23,000 tonnes in the previous campaign, up about 20%, head of agricultural extension service, Lotfi Kozdoghli told TAP.

"Grape production in the region will be good this year, despite rising temperatures and water shortage,” he noted, adding that production of table grapes will increase by 15%.

The area of vineyards in the governorate of Nabeul covers about 9,000 hectares spread between the delegations of Bou Argoub, Takelsa, Grombalia, Korba and Kelibia.

The wine sector in the region is a major activity with about 3000 producers. It accounts for 70% of domestic production of processing grapes and 12% of table grapes.
