(TAP) - Regional Director of Employment and Training at the Support Project for Tunisian Youth through Social and Solidarity Entrepreneurship (PAJESS) in Ariana, Tarek Mahjoub said on Saturday that the programme has allowed the creation of 11 projects in the region that have benefited from funding lines, in partnership with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Duchy of Luxembourg.

These projects concern the fields of agriculture, services and new information technologies and constitute "success stories", Mahjoub said in a statement to TAP, on the sidelines of a national day on social and solidarity economy held Saturday at the Youth Centre in Ariana.

For his part, President of the Economic Chamber of El-Menzah, Mohamed Aziz Ben Thabet stressed, on this occasion, that the social and solidarity economy is the national theme of the Chamber's activity for the year 2022, noting that the event organised by the Chamber in partnership with the Regional Directorate of Vocational Training and Employment of Ariana, was devoted to the introduction of Law No. 30 of 2020 on the organisation of this type of economy.

The social and solidarity economy represents an important source of development in the world, with 10% of the gross domestic product in France and about 20% of the gross domestic product in Canada, but its contribution in Tunisia remains very limited, representing only 0.1% of the country's gross domestic product.
