Thirty-six fires sweep nearly 110 ha of grain area in Beja

Beja, June 22 (TAP) - Thirty-six fires have been reported in the governorate of Beja since early May, ravaging nearly 110 hectares of grain crops.

The destroyed grain area is as follows: 89 ha of wheat and a further 10 ha of barley, data provided by the civil protection directorate show. This in addition to 1,767 bundles of straw and 950 hay bales.

An additional 56 fires broke out in dumps as well as two in fields of fenugreek, oats and beans. 

The number of fires and the rate of ravaged agricultural areas dropped in comparison with the same period last year, Regional Director of Civil Protection Colonel major Moez Ben Khlifa told TAP.
