(TAP) - The Interior Ministry announced in a statement Friday the arrest of a Takfiri who was planning a “lone wolf” terrorist attack on National Guard patrols in the delegation of Souassi, Mahdia.

The ministry said the arrest took place on Thursday after reports received from the Prevention of Terrorism Department of the Mahdia National Guard District that a Takfiri element from The Souassi delegation would go to the hotbeds of tension and join terrorist groups.

The statement said that this Takfiri a 17-year-old student living in the Souassi delegation, was preparing to join terrorist organisation "Daesh".

According to the same statement, the arrested element monitored a patrol of the National Guard in the delegation of Souassi at different times of the day with the aim of targeting their agents by stabbing them by knife according to his plan for the next days of Ramadan.

The Takfiri confessed during his interrogation that he did not intend to flee after the attack to die as a martyr, according to his words.

He had also prepared a video footage that included his photos and jihadist songs as a message for his family.

The Public Prosecutor at the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division has ordered the detention of the Takfiri.
