(TAP) - The three regional and local leaders of the Popular Front (FP) arrested on Thursday amidst the latest unrest in the El-Guettar delegation (Gafsa governorate) were released on Friday, said lawyer Afef Zarrouk.

These leaders were placed in custody after suspects arrested in the vandalism that took place last Monday in El-Guettar confessed the involvement of these leaders in these acts.

Thirteen people were arrested as a result of acts of violence committed in the area, including torching of the police station and ransacking the tax office, said Public Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Gafsa Mohamed Khelifi.

In a statement released on Thursday, the FP called for the release of its activists and supporters "arbitrarily" arrested in several parts of the country including El-Guettar, Mahdia and El-Kabaria.

It accused the government of complicity with the networks of corruption and crime during the protests and of misleading the public opinion by holding the Front responsible for these acts.
