(TAP)- Minister of Women, the Family, Children and the Elderly, Néziha Laabidi, called on Saturday for the adoption of a common Arab vision to defend the rights of Arab women and strengthen their achievements and their integration into economic, social and political life.

Speaking at an international conference at the Sorbonne University in France on the sidelines of the event "Tunisia, capital of Arab women 2018-2019", Laabidi discussed the main institutional and legal measures taken by Tunisia to strengthen women's achievements.

The Minister pointed out that the choice of Tunisia as the Arab women's capital for 2018-2019 is a recognition of its efforts to promote women's rights, such as the creation of a peer council for equal opportunities for men and women and the establishment of a national strategy for the integration of social gender into development plans in addition to the launch of the "Raïda" programme for the promotion of women's economic initiative.

She also pointed out that Tunisia's choice as the international capital for equal opportunities in 2019 and the UN capital for children without corporal punishment in 2020 is also a crowning achievement in its efforts to strengthen women's and children's rights in order to guarantee stability within the family and society in general.

The programme of this conference includes workshops on Arab women living abroad and their contribution to development in addition to women and the fight against terrorism, as well as the presentation of successful Arab experiences in this field.
