(TAP)- President of Tripoli-based National Organisation of Libyan Youth (NOLY)Khaled Ghouil Saturday announced in Tunis the creation of the African Coordination for Women and Youth.

The coordination seeks to protect the rights of women, children and youth and address relevant challenges, Ghouil told a regional conference organised by the National Union of Tunisian Women (French: UNFT) in partnership with NOLY and the National Forum of Tunisian Women, in particular, to observe National Women's day.

The body, which brings together youth and women's organisations throughout Africa, will help monitor joint action in line with international conventions inked by the African Union and the European Union, mainly in relation to projects of development and investment.

Ghouil also said the coordination, which also includes human rights organisations, will defend the rights of youth and women.

UNFT President Radhia Jeribi said the organisation will address hardships endured by women and youth, such as poverty, illiteracy, migration, wars and political conflicts.

Jeribi added that the regional conference is geared towards pooling the efforts of African organisations and said African countries face the same economic, social and security challenges.

Four main themes were debated at this conference, namely African youth and terrorism, the role of women and youth in economic development, the empowerment of women and youth and the importance of art in increasing the participation of women and youth in political life.
