Tunisia at 66th World Health Organisation Regional Committee for Eastern Mediterranean on October 14-17 in Tehran

(TAP) – Tunisia participated in the works of the 66th session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, October 14-17 in Tehran (Iran), with a delegation led by Interim Health Minister Sonia Becheikh.

In a speech delivered on this occasion, Becheikh highlighted Tunisia’s determination to respect all international conventions aiming to reach the sustainable development goals by 2030, in accordance with the interest given to the health as a fundamental component of the human rights, a Health Ministry press release issued on Friday reads.

In this respect, she recalled the efforts made by the Tunisian State to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable health coverage to all Tunisian citizens, with a view to defend their right to access quality health services nationwide, by developing and bringing the services closer through the necessary elements to the good governance, and by reforming the funding system and using the modern management technology so as to guarantee transparency and improve the governance in the hospitals.

On the fringes of this session, Becheikh met with numerous WHO officials, including WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean and Health ministers of Iran, Sudan, Qatar, Sultanate Oman and Djibouti.

The meetings helped discuss ways to step up the partnership and co-operation in the health field between Tunisia and these countries, the press release reads.
