(TAP) - The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) has condemned "the insulting and threatening statements made against journalists" and denounced "the demonisation of media" in a statement issued on Friday by its executive office.

The UGTT also denounced what it calls "verbal aggression and the dissemination of fake news against trade unionists in an attempt to destabilise the trade union centre".

In addition, the UGTT congratulated President-elect Kais Said, winner of the second round of the early presidential election, wishing him success in his mission.

The trade union centre thanked the voters and the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) and its members for the success of the parliamentary elections and the two rounds of the early presidential election.

The UGTT paid tribute to the observers and trade unionists who monitored the elections, praising the efforts made by the security and army forces in the electoral process.

The trade union centre welcomed the call by Acting Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Abdelfateh Mourou to hold a full session on Wednesday 23 October 2019 for the swearing-in of the new President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed.
