(TAP) - A partnership agreement was signed Monday in Tunis by the Ministry of Education and Article 19 Tunis Office as part of human rights training for teachers, the consolidation of the freedom of expression and fight against the hate speech.

The agreement builds on a previous accord inked in 2016, said Education Minister Hatem Ben Salem. It is intended to uphold human rights values and reject the hate speech among students.

Regional Director of ARTICLE 19 MENA Office Saloua Ghazouani said the first agreement signed in 2016 aimed to consolidate the freedom of expression in schools to ward off the hate speech. The new agreement will help introduce younger generations to media and information.

The training will be based, in particular, on a pedagogical guide developed since the 2016 agreement to train teachers, administrative staff and all stakeholders in the education sector to promote freedom of expression, she said.

There is need for educational institutions to help pupils exercise their rights, without fear, and build their capacities.
