(TAP) – The National Union of Tunisian Women (UNFT) will launch by the end of the year a strategy for adult education by 2025, project expert to the Institute for Co-operation in Adult Education (DVV International) Houssem Belhaj announced.

The main axes of this project had been defined during debate meetings and brainstorming workshops resulting in several recommendations and proposals, he told TAP on the fringes of the 4th reflection workshop on the draft new strategy organised by the UNFT.

According to the same source, the new strategy is the result of a three-year partnership initiated in 2019 between the Social Affairs Ministry and the DVV International that provided the financial support to this project.

For her part, UNFT President Radhia Jerbi indicated that the union is endeavouring to devise a new adult literacy method based not only on learning the alphabetic, but also on reinforcing skills and the inclusion of learners in the public life to be able to improve their economic conditions.

The illiteracy rate in Tunisia in 2014 stood at 19.3%, including 25% women and 45 rural women.

The UNFT counts a hundred of training centres and 60 adult-education centres that annually grant about 5,000 diplomas.
