Budget of Higher Education Ministry for 2020 expected to increase by 8%" (Slim Khalbous)

(TAP)-"The budget of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the year 2020 is expected to increase by about 8%, compared to the budget for the year 2019," revealed Minister of Higher Education Slim Khalbous.

In a statement to TAP on the sidelines of a conference organised Monday in Tunis by the Center for Economic and Social Studies and Research (French: CERES), "Tunisia by 2030", the Minister indicated that the value of the budget will amount to 1.7 billion dinars, 75% of which will be devoted to the wage bill.

According to the budget document for the year 2020, the expenditure mobilised for development at the Ministry of Higher Education will be about 175 million dinars, an increase of 25 million dinars compared to the budget of the Higher Education Department for the year 2019.

These expenses will be allocated to the construction of new annexes in university institutions, extension and maintenance work, the acquisition of necessary equipment, the development of certain institutions, university works and research centres.

The scientific research network will be funded through electronic subscriptions to scientific magazines and periodicals and made available to researchers for an estimated 12 million dinars.

The budget of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the 2019 financial year was approximately 1.64 billion dinars and was around 1.48 billion dinars for the year 2018.
