Ministry of Education sign partnership agreement with authority of access to information

(TAP) –The Ministry of Education, on Tuesday, signed a partnership agreement with the national authority for access to information, at the National Centre for Training and Skills Development.

The agreement concerns establishing a legal framework for bilateral cooperation, based on joint programmes, annual action plans and opening the ministry to its environment, as well as enhancing the principles of transparency and accountability at the level of its structures and employees in the area of ​​access to information.

The agreement provides for the development of awareness programmes on the right of access to information. These programmes will help establish a culture of access to information and spread it among teachers, students, managers and ministry staff in various educational spaces.

It also provides for including the right of access to information in the official curricula of different school levels.

Education Minister Hatem Ben Salem said building democracy and a transparent education system can only be based on free and unconditional access to information under the law.

Director General of the central unit of the Ministry Ahmed Sebri stressed the importance of this agreement, which will establish new principles and spread the culture of access to information at the level of central and regional structures of the Ministry; “it will allow training children through the simplification of the concept of access to information and its application mechanisms,” he said.

Vice president of the authority of access to information Adnan Lassoued indicated that law N° 22 of 2016 relating to the right of access to information upholds the right of each citizen to access the information.

“This law applies to all organs of the State, to the Presidency of the Republic, to the Prime Ministry and to parliament, as well as to all the ministries and components of civil society in order to achieve a set of objectives to preserve public money and guarantee greater transparency.
