(TAP)- Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Noureddine Taboubi said Tuesday it is important that a competent, open-minded and unanimous personality be assigned to accelerate the formation of a salvation government with an effective and rapidly achievable programme.

In an address to workers and trade unionists on the 9th anniversary of the Revolution, Taboubi added that the expected government is called upon to define urgent priorities and address the problems of the regions, youth and different social group.

Taboubi said this government must be small and composed of political experts and national personalities known for their great experience, initiative and integrity and willing to remain at the service of Tunisians.

He called on the winners of the elections to assume their responsibilities and to avoid controversies and sterile debates in order to speed up the formation of the new government.

The Secretary General of the UGTT called for a review of political behaviour in the management of differences and national affairs, in accordance with equitable governance that values transparency, respects the law and upholds respect for human rights and the principle of full equality between men and women.

“Despite the grim reality, we are fully confident in the people's ability to meet the challenge of democratic transition and to push for the achievement of the objectives of the Revolution,” he said in conclusion.
