Scientific Committee for Fight against Coronavirus urges adherence to health guidelines in public spaces

(TAP) - The Scientific Committee for the Fight against the Coronavirus, on Wednesday, called for more vigilance and adherence to preventive measures in public spaces and shops to keep the epidemiological situation under control in order to preserve the convincing results obtained during the general lockdown period.

During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh and attended by Health Minister Abdellatif Mekki Wednesday at El Kasbah, the scientific committee expressed its satisfaction at the positive results recorded so far in view of the regression of cases of infection with COVID-19 (zero cases as of May 12), stressing that vigilance must remain in place.

During the meeting, the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the country, the results of the targeted lockdown period, and the effectiveness of the national strategy to fight the pandemic were reviewed.

Director of the National Observatory of New and Emerging Diseases Nissaf Ben Alaya told reporters at the end of the meeting "the danger still remains, because of the continued repatriation of Tunisians stranded abroad and in the absence of a vaccine against the virus".

For his part, professor of the Faculty of Medicine and specialist in epidemiology and control of communicable diseases, Mohamed Chahed stressed the imperative to maintain preventive measures during the period of targeted lockdown,

indicating that some sectors would be likely to resume their activities, according to the requirements of the stage.
