Fakhfakh announces series of measures for rural women as he visits Siliana

(TAP) – Caretaker Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh announced a series of measures for rural women as he visited Monday the Women's Grouping for Development in the Agricultural Sector in Boujlida (delegation of Aroussa, Siliana governorate).

During his visit, which coincides with the celebrations of National Women's Day, Fakhfakh said in remarks a piece of land was reserved to the construction of the headquarters of 'a point of sale for women’s agricultural products in the governorate of Siliana worth 168,000 dinars. The amount of money will be allocated to the development of this new space. The same measures will be taken in other governorates, he added.

Fakhfakh indicated that an agricultural village will be created very soon in the delegation of Makthar. He spoke of the publication of a decree regulating the transport of women workers in the agricultural sector so as to avoid road accidents.

He added that the programme of "Woman Is the Sole Breadwinner" will be activated in Siliana, alongside the exploitation of the "Profits" system so as to create direct sources of income for women farmers.

The PM emphasised the need to make the most of the major projects of the Agriculture Ministry intended for professional structures to create sources of income for women. "Rural women are the backbone of food security in Tunisia as we saw during the coronavirus pandemic. That is why, we must support them," he said.

Fakhfakh spoke of the development of the number of female professional structures in agriculture and fishery, going from a single women's group in 2011 to 121 groups in the various governorates with 3,600 members.
