Redeyef phosphate transport resumes after 3-year interruption
17/08/2020 17:33, TUNIS/Tunisia

(TAP) – The Gafsa Phosphate Company (French: CPG) resumed on the weekend the transport of commercial phosphate from its mines in Redeyef to its clients.

This activity has been suspended since 2017 due to protests and sit-ins observed by job-seekers who have blocked the roads and railways.

The resolution of this situation came after “weeks of serious and fruitful negotiations between the different stakeholders,” a Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Energy Transition press release reads.

The concluded agreement between the different stakeholders provides the immediate lifting of the sit-ins for 3 months as of the agreement date, the resumption of phosphate production and transport, and for the government to acknowledge the agreements concluded by previous governments with the sit-inners on employment, training and development in Gafsa and Redeyef.
