(TAP)- The situation of  Gafsa Phosphate Company (French: CPG) took centre stage as caretaker Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh met Monday with Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (French: UGTT) Noureddine Tabboubi.

Tabboubi was accompanied by Secretary-General of the labour union's local section in Gafsa Mohamed Seghir Miraoui and Secretary-General of the General Union of Petroleum and Chemicals Borni Khemila.

Fakhfakh said the government is keen to improve the social climate  and resolve thorny issues as part of an inclusive development approach.

The Caretaker Premier said he fully understands protesters' demands of jobs and development but condems attacks on State institutions, the Prime Ministry said in a press release.

Tabboubi said the situation is serious in the CPG and the Tunisian Chemical Group as reserves dropped. He stressed the need to work in concert with all stakeholders in order to resume normal production in both facilities and
preserve jobs, mainly during this difficult economic and social context.

Bold decisions are called for to resume activity in the CPG and break with temporary solutions, he further said.

The Energy, Mines and Energy Transition Ministry announced last Friday the resumption of phosphate transport  in Redayef after suspension over sit-ins.
