(TAP) – Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi stressed Thursday the imperative to consolidate the health sector and mobilise the necessary funds to ensure development and promote recruitment.

The health sector is a priority sector but still has shortcomings in both material and human resources resulting in a service in hospitals that do not meet the expectations of citizens, said Mechichi at the meeting of technical committees specialising in the fight against coronavirus, held following the latest developments of the epidemic situation in the various governorates of the country and the increase in the number of infection by the virus.

In a statement issued by the Prime Ministry, Mechichi gave guidelines to promote drugs in sufficient quantities on the market, stating that it is intolerable to accept a scarcity of drugs on the market.

He also raised the issue of the migration of doctors abroad and the flagrant lack of specialist doctors in various hospitals in addition to the closure of some hospitals due to the lack of medical and paramedical facilities.

The PM also commended the efforts made by the various stakeholders in the health sector allowing Tunisia to become an example to follow in terms of developing a strategy to fight against COVID-19.

Mechichi recalled in this regard, the government's priorities in this exceptional epidemic situation, namely to ensure a return to school and university in the best conditions.
