"Museum of Democracy", modern tool to raise awareness of political and civil rights for people with special needs

(TAP) - A number of people with special needs took part in the "Museum of Democracy" event organised on Wednesday in Tunis by the Independent High Authority for the Election (ISIE), in cooperation with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), with the aim of strengthening the participation of this category of people in elections and to raise awareness of their political and civil rights.

The organisation of the "Museum of Democracy" for the benefit of people with special needs coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), celebrated on December 3 of .each year.

The organisers of this meeting reviewed the key dates of politics in Tunisia, the major institutions of the State, as well as the different electoral stages via virtual reality technology.

In a statement to TAP, member of the ISIE, Belgacem Ayachi said that the Forum aims through this event, to enrich the knowledge of persons with disabilities on their civic rights and duties and to simplify their knowledge of the different electoral stages, using the latest technology.

The "Museum of Democracy", which has developed its own free application on "Google Play" and "iStore", is a simplified educational method for people with special needs, that aims to raise their awareness about participation in public life.

For her part, Secretary-General of the Tunisian Organisation for the Defence of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Bouraouia Agrebi, stressed the importance of supporting people with special needs in all areas, particularly in developing their knowledge of all aspects of the elections, facilitating their participation in the voting process and activating their role in the country's public life.

The organisation of the "Museum of Democracy" event for the benefit of people with special needs in different governorates of the country is planned to start next year.
