Health Ministry receives medical aid and equipment worth €13 million from EU

(TAP)- The Health Ministry took delivery Friday of medical aid and equipment worth €13 million. The European Union-funded assistance is geared towards Essaha Aziza programme.

This aid consists of a 193 vehicles, including four-axle ambulances and ambulances type 1 and 2 for 995 public health facilities in 13 governorates. There are also 88 multipurpose vehicles and thirteen four-wheel drive cars to transport nursing and medical monitoring teams to basic healthcare centres in remote areas.

Health Minister Faouzi Mehdi said the equipment aimed to beef up frontline healthcare services in the 13 target regions under Essaha Aziza programme will help support the health system, notably in relation to COVID-19 vaccination.

EU Ambassador to Tunisia Marcus Cornaro said the overall cost of Essaha Aziza programme amounts to €20.500 million. An extra €50 million will be allocated to the programme starting from 2022. Priority regions will be the recipients of basic healthcare services in connection to maternal and child health, preventive healthcare and COVID-19 vaccination.
