(TAP) - Wahida Rhimi, an expert in the management of international cooperation projects at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, on Saturday, announced the launch of an online platform to share experiences and information between Tunisian expat organisations, created as part of a dialogue project for a federation of Tunisian associations abroad.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the first forum of Tunisian organisations abroad, Rhimi added that the platform has so far attracted 40 organisations from a total of 450 managed by Tunisians abroad.

Ola Tarsim, officer n charge of monitoring the project of dialogue of Tunisian organisations abroad, said that the forum, organized in cooperation between the Office of Tunisians Abroad, the Tunisian Migration Observatory, the International Center for Migration Policy Development and the German Agency for International Cooperation, provided a framework for the opening of a dialogue between Tunisian organisations active abroad.

She noted that representatives of associations participating in the forum discussed at workshops ways to achieve Tunisia's economic development, by attracting investment from Tunisians living abroad and helping them to launch projects in their countries or enhancing the image of investment in Tunisia in their countries of residence.

She said the forum, which saw the participation of 20 organisations, is part of a project of dialogue for unified Tunisian organisations abroad, funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation.

The goal is to establish a network of about 450 Tunisian organisations abroad, she noted.

For his part, Director General of the Tunisian Migration Observatory, Abdel Raouf Jmal, said Tunisian expats contribute significantly to the national economy, since their foreign exchange remittances amounted last year to 5.7 billion dinars, up more than 20% compared to 2019, according to statistics from the Central Bank of Tunisia.

The Director General of the Tunisian Observatory highlighted the leading role played by Tunisians abroad in the coronavirus, through their contribution to medical aid in the country.
