(TAP)- The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) announced, on Wednesday, the launch of the Tunisian Centre for Research and Studies on Terrorism (CTRET).

During a conference in Tunis to present this new structure and announce the results of its first study, Abderrahmane Hedhili, FTDES President stressed that the center will be responsible for carrying out studies to analyse the phenomenon of terrorism and to know its various mechanisms and its development in order to reflect on the anticipated solutions that can reduce the proliferation of this scourge in the long term.

Hedhili said that from the revolution to date thousands of unemployed young people have emigrated illegally while others were attracted to terrorist networks and smuggling.

"It is now necessary to carefully analyse the social phenomena to save our youth and provide them a better future," he said.

For his part, Ridha Raddaoui , head of CTRET said the centre has relied on data registered in court records, calling for generalised studies on the phenomenon of terrorism in Tunisia, which main actors, networks and ideology are not sufficiently known.

Raddaoui has also indicated that the centre intends to create a helpline for Victims of terrorism to know their concerns and be able to anticipate their actions.

The conference was also an opportunity to present the results of the first study by CTRET entitled "Terrorism in Tunisia through court records."

Developed by lawyers and specialists, the study concerns a sample of over 1,000 terrorists and is based on 384 court records presented during the 2011-2015 period.

Representatives of the civil society and political parties as well as lawyers, sociologists, academics, security officials and journalists attended the conference.
