(TAP) - The General Union of Secondary Education has reaffirmed, in a statement published on Sunday, its attachment to the decision issued from the regions' meeting as to the suspension of classes in colleges and high schools from March 27.

The statement follows an emergency meeting of the union held in the wake of the rejection by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) executive bureau to suspend classes and support teachers who claim an alternative to the Education Minister.

The union adds that the executive bureau's position illustrates one aspect of the democratic combat within UGTT.

The union rejectes "the impulsive and offensive statements as well as calls for withdrawal," asserting that in this sensitive situation it is necessary to close ranks around UGTT to face the unpopular orientations, the same source reads.
