Seventh Arab Youth Athletics Championships - day 1: Tunisia win 9 medals

(TAP) – Tunisia won 9 medals (2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze) at the end of the first day of the 7th edition of the Arab Youth Athletics Championships (U16 and U17), due to last till Sunday in Rades with the participation of over 400 athletes representing 14 countries.

At the end of day 1 competitions, Tunisia finished second, with Algeria ahead (9 medals: 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze) and followed by Morocco (7 medals: 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze) and Egypt (3 medals: 2 gold and 1 silver).

Tunisia’s gold medals were snatched by Teyssir Haj Said in the long jump with a 5.31 metre jump and Syrine Kadri in the 3000m race, clocking 10:26.7.

The silver medals were won by Soumaya Manai in the 5000m race (24:46), Fédi Jedidi in the 2000 steeple (5:55.03) and Chaima Chouikh in the discus throw (40.60m).

The four bronze medals were won by Hiba Nasr (100m fence race with 15.70 seconds), Oussama Aouina (10.000m race with 43:42.13), Koussai Mhamdi (2000m clocking 6:01.09) and Amor Attia (javelin with 46.47m).

The Arab Athletic Association paid a special tribute during the opening ceremony to Tunisian Olympic champions Mohammed Gammoudi and Habiba Gheribi.
