(TAP)- The Tunisian democratic experience is laudable, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov as he was received Friday by President Béji Caïd Essebsi in Carthage. He also hailed Tunisia's key role in establishing security and stability in the region.

Turkmenistan's chief diplomat laid emphasis on the excellent political and diplomatic relations, particularly coordination and continuous exchange of support within such groupings as the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, reads a Presidency press release.

The Head of State highlighted the importance of capitalising on the factors of historical and civilisational rapprochement to establish economic relations between the two countries.

He also said he hopes this unprecedented visit by a Turkmenistanese FM since the establishment of diplomatic relations in November 1992 would pave the way for exploring avenues of bilateral cooperation and scaling up cooperation with countries of Central Asia.

The meeting was attended by FM Khemaies Jhinaoui.
