Caid Essebsi chairs in Monastir commemoration ceremony of 19th anniversary of leader Habib Bourguiba's death

(TAP) – An official solemn ceremony was organised on Saturday at the Bourguiba family square in Monastir on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the death of leader Habib Bourguiba.

President Beji Caid Essebsi laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the leader’s mausoleum and recited the Fatiha in his memory.

Earlier, the President of the Republic had saluted the flag while the national anthem was being performed and reviewed a detachment of the three armies.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, Speaker of the House of People's Representatives (HPR) Mohamed Ennaceur and several government members.

Resistance fighters and activists of the National Liberation Movement and members of Bourguiba’s family were also present at the ceremony.

In a statement to the media, Caid Essebsi pointed out “the need to carry on efforts to promote Tunisia’s image among the nations,” affirming loyality to Habib Bourguiba, great reformer of Tunisia who had established free education, liberated the country and the Tunisian women.”

Besides, the Head of State laid emphasis on the need to carry on Habib Bourguiba's project and mission, which “continues with the current State and government as was the case with the previous governments.”

“Anyone who is out of the State will is a loser,” he said.
