(TAP) - Prime Minister Youssef Chahed Friday requisitioned the national army to ensure fuel distribution in filling stations as a strike by fuel transport workers continued for a second day despite an agreement reached the previous day with authorities.

The strike scheduled for May 2, 3 and 4 was cancelled on Thursday evening following an agreement brokered during a negotiating session held at the headquarters of the Transport Ministry in the presence of ministers of transport and industry, the President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (French: UTICA) and the members of the General Federation of Transport.

Deputy Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (French: UGTT) Mohamed Ali Boughdiri told TAP on Thursday evening the strike of fuel transport workers was cancelled after a salary increase agreement for 2018/19 was inked.
