(TAP) – The Arab Finance Ministers held an emergency meeting on Sunday in the headquarters of the Arab League Secretariat in Cairo (Egypt), under chairmanship of Tunisia, to examine the issue of the financial safety net for Palestine to help it cope with the Israeli pressures and financial and economic measures against the Palestinian economy.

The meeting is held at the invitation of Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, with the participation of Arab Finance Ministers, in materialisation of the decision made during the emergency meeting of Arab Foreign Affairs Ministers, held April 2019 in Cairo in the presence of President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas, as well as that of the Tunis Summit on the activation of the financial safety net worth $100 million per month so as to counter the political coercion.

The political and financial pressures on the Palestinian Authority consist in cuts made by the Israeli authority on the Palestinian tax revenues dedicated to the families of Palestinian martyrs and detainees, which is a violation of the Protocol on Economic Relations (the Paris Protocol of 1994) that defines the parameters of economic relations between Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Arab League Council pointed out in its final declaration the need for Arab countries to support the Palestinian Authority and implement the Tunis Summit decision.
