(TAP) - Interim President Mohamed Ennaceur inaugurated on Thursday morning in the suburb of Carthage an avenue named after the late President Beji Caid Essebsi, on the 40th day of his passing.

In his remarks on the occasion, Ennaceur said the avenue was named after the late President, on the initiative of the Municipal Council of Carthage, in order to perpetuate the memory of President Caid Essebsi for his contribution to building the state of independence and the leadership of the second Republic.

The interim President called on the party leaders and candidates who initiated their election campaign for the early presidential polls to follow the principles for which the late President Caid Essebsi strove to uphold, including serving the people away from partisan and factional interests.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by former President Fouad Mebazaa, Governor of Tunis, Chadli Bouallegue, members of the family of the late President and members of the Municipal Council of Carthage.

Interim President Mohamed Ennaceur also went to the Jellaz cemetery where he read the Fatiha in memory of the deceased president Beji Caid Essebsi.
