First televised debate between 2019 presidential candidates

(TAP) -The first televised debate between the candidates (26) in the early presidential polls was held on Saturday night under the heading: "The road to Carthage, Tunisia makes its choice."

This first debate brought together, according to draws made on August 31, Abdelfateh Mourou, Omar Mansour, Abir Moussi, Mohamed Abou, Neji Jelloul, Mehdi Jomaa, Nabil Karoui, Mohamed Moncef Marzouki and Abid Briki.

Was absent from this debate candidate Nabil Karoui, arrested since August 23, 2019, following a complaint filed against him by the organisation "I WATCH" (Ana Yakidh) for tax evasion and money laundering.

The questions directed to the participants in the debate covered foreign policy, national security and their various initiatives.

The second and third televised debates are planned for Sunday and Monday, respectively. The second will bring together nine candidates, namely, Mohsen Marzouk, Mongi Rahoui, Ilyes Fakhfekh, Mohamed Hechmi el Hamdi, Abdelkrim Zbidi, Mohamed Sghaier Nouri, Hamadi Jebali, Mohamed Lotfi Mraihi and Hatem Boulabiar.

The third and final debate will gather Youssef Chahed, Kais Saied, Ahmed Safi Said, Hamma Hammami, Seifeddine Makhlouf, Said Aidi and Selma Elloumi. Candidate Slim Riahi will not be present as he is abroad and sued for several cases.

A privilege for the choice of the day of the presence in the televised debate was granted to Abdelfateh Mourou, Mohsen Marzoug and Youssef Chahed whose parties are the most represented in the parliament.
