(TAP) – A delegation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will pay a visit to Tunisia on September 16-17, to make a determination on Tunisia’s removal from the list of countries subject to the FATF’s supervision, Advisor to the Prime Minister Faisal Derbel told TAP on Friday.

At the end of a meeting held at the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) on this issue, Derbel voiced optimism about the outcome of this visit.

“After having honoured all the commitments made with the FATF, we seek to exit the list with honour and we have everything settled to this end.

FATF officials had made a mock visit to Tunisia on August 22-23 in the same conditions as the official visit due next week. This visit had helped us assess our preparations and to make the necessary adjustments.”

"Several small cabinet meetings were dedicated to this subject, the most recent one was held on September 10, with the participation of all concerned ministers and officials. It is perhaps the issue to which we have dedicated the highest number of small cabinet meetings," he added.

“Today’s meeting at the BCT’s headquarters helped us discuss the issue with the Tunisian team entrusted with discussions with the FATF officials. I can assure you that we are ready.”

“The outcome of this visit will be revealed as soon as it ends on September 17, but it will be officially announced in October during the FATF’s general assembly,” he added.

The FTAF is an inter-governmental body that aims to set standards and promote effective implementation of legal, regulatory and operational measures for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system.
