"Tunisia will be the voice of the Arab World and Africa in UNSC", says Jhinaoui

(TAP) - Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui spoke of Tunisia’s priorities following Tunisia’s election as a-non permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the period of 2020-2021, as he took part in the Fourth Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) on Thursday in Barcelona.

The minister pointed out that Tunisia will be the voice of the Arab World and Africa. It will contribute to establishing an effective diplomacy and promote an agenda of peace in the region and across the world.

Jhinaoui stressed Tunisia’s commitment to a stable, solid and prosperous Euro-Mediterranean space. He suggested on the 25th Anniversary of the Barcelona Process to start a shared reflection on the outcomes of this process as well as on the best future strategy to overcome all immediate threats facing the Euro-Mediterranean space, namely economic integration, countering terrorism, migration management and protection of the environment.

During his participation in the fourth edition of the Forum, the Tunisian FM had talks with his Algerian, Mauritanian, Portuguese and Albanian counterparts.

The meetings focused on the situation in the Euro-Mediterranean region as well as on boosting bilateral cooperation with these countries.

Jhinaoui called for pooling efforts to put an end to the Libyan crisis, reiterating the key role of the neighbouring countries in helping Libyan citizens find a lasting and peaceful solution to their crisis.

Jhinaoui also held talks with UfM Secretary-General Kamel Nasser on the preparations for the 25th Anniversary of the Barcelona Process.
