NGOs launch new project to support freedom of expression and access to information

(TAP)– The “Article 19” organisation, on Wednesday, announced the launch of a new project, in cooperation with other partners to support freedom of expression and press, and the right of access to information in Tunisia, said Director of “Transparency” Programme at the organisation Karim Belhadj Aissa.

The project is based on three main axes, he said at a press conference held in Tunis.

The first provides for supporting civil society and public institutions to implement international standards with regard to freedom of expression, access to information and the exchange of expertise.

The second axis consists of supporting public structures implement the law on access to information.

The third axis provides for the launch of an investigative journalism academy for young journalists; it will promote alternative information, such as regional and associative media.

The project, called “support for freedom of expression and access to information,” is jointly implemented with the Ministry of the Public Service. It is a partnership between “Article 19” association, the Tunisian Association of Governance and IREX Europe.
